700 Sixth Street NW - Glass Floor, Balustrades & Railings

Location: Washington, DC

Designer/Architect: Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum Inc.

Duration: Jan 2008 - Jun 2009

Scope: Soheil Mosun Limited was contracted to fabricate and install this glass floor, balustrades and railings at 700 Sixth Street NW in Washington D.C.

Highlights: The lobby glass floor, balustrades and railings were engineered and fabricated by Soheil Mosun Limited to include 1 1/4" thick, 3-layer laminated glass panels with fritted surfaces that provide a translucent, non-slip finish. The glass floor is supported with concealed steel I-Beams which were set to leave final glass surface perfectly flush with the adjacent stone floor. Glass balustrades around the floor were fabricated from laminated glass and feature stainless steel handrails and custom machined stainless steel hardware. In January 2010, SML was selected the winner of the Washington Building Congress Craftsmanship Award® which recognizes SML's outstanding skill and achievement on its scope of work for the 700 Sixth Street NW project.
